Itinerary
- Day 1: Palermo
Airport pickup and transfer to the hotel. Astoria Palace Hotel 3*+ or similar (D)
- Day 2: Palermo – Monreale – Mondello – Palermo (50km)
Take a morning of the historic centre of Palermo. Continue to Monreale to see the Cathedral of William II, famous for its magnificent Byzantine mosaics. Enjoy pizza for lunch, then explore the Capuchin Catacombs, the Capo market, and Mondello, a former fishing village. (B-L-D)
- Day 3: Palermo – Erice – Selinunte (200km)
Head to Erice, a medieval hilltop town overlooking the sea, the Egadi Islands, and Trapani. See the exterior of the Norman Castle, also known as the Castle of Venus. Continue to Selinunte for a tasting of the renowned Marsala wine. Take an afternoon guided tour of this ancient Greek city, including the Eastern Hill temples and the acropolis. - Day 4: Selinunte – Agrigento – Piazza Armerina – Catania (290km)
Depart for the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, featuring the remains of the temples of Juno, Concordia, and Heracles. Have lunch, then continue to Piazza Armerina for a tour of the Villa Romana del Casale, renowned for its exceptional mosaics. Dinner and accommodation in the Catania area. - Day 5: Catania – Syracuse – Noto – Catania (200km)
Head to Syracuse, an ancient Greek colony. Tour the archaeological area of Neapolis, including the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, and the stone quarries. Have lunch, then continue to Noto, a small Baroque town known as the “stone garden.” Stroll through its historic centre, admiring its churches and noble palaces. (B-L-D)
- Day 6: Catania – Etna – Taormina – Catania (140 km)
Go on an excursion to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. Take a coach up to 1,800 m and explore the extinct Silvestri craters. Optional ascent to 2,800 m ($). Enjoy lunch, then travel to Taormina, a former Greek settlement and now a beautiful resort town perched on Mount Tauro. Visit the Greco-Roman theatre, once used for tragedies and gladiator games. - Day 7: Catania – Castelbuono – Cefalù – Palermo (300km)
Depart for Castelbuono. Join a walking tour of the town centre to sample local products and see the medieval Ventimiglia Castle. Enjoy a lunch of local specialties accompanied by folk music, then continue to Cefalù, a charming medieval town on the coast.
