Passport photos for babies and young children: What you need to know
All our Travel Centres provide services for babies and young children. Here are a few tips to make taking photos easier.
Dress the child in dark or colourful clothing. Avoid white.
Avoid nap or mealtimes.
Favour times when there are fewer people, such as weekdays during the day.
In addition, the person accompanying the child or baby must remain nearby at all times during the photo shoot to ensure their safety.
The photo of the baby or child must meet these criteria of the Canada Passport Program:
Neutral facial expression
Eyes open and clearly visible
Mouth closed, no smile
Face and gaze toward the camera
Recent appearance of the child (taken no more than 6 months prior to submitting the application)
The final decision regarding photo acceptance rests with the Passport Program. In the event of rejection, we will take new photos at no charge. In such cases, the rejected passport photos must be returned to us.
Please note
Taking photos of babies and young children can prove challenging. It may take longer than expected, especially if the child is crying or has fallen asleep. In this case, we may assist others in the meantime to ensure optimal service for all our customers. Furthermore, if we determine that taking photos is impossible, you may need to return at another time.
