Yes! You need travel insurance any time you leave Quebec. The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) does not fully cover health care fees or emergency medical care outside the province—even within the rest of Canada. 

Certain costs, such as ambulance transport or prescription medication, may not be covered. That’s why we strongly recommend emergency medical travel insurance plans with 24/7 emergency assistance.

3. Is it safe to book a trip online?

Always book through a licensed travel agency accredited by the Office de la protection du consommateur (such as CAA-Quebec Travel). Your purchase will then be protected by the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents (CFCTA). 

Before paying online: 

• Ensure the booking site is secure. 

• Read the booking terms and conditions carefully—some reservations are non-changeable or come with high fees for changes. 

• Check if you can access assistance from a travel consultant if needed, as you can when booking through CAA-Quebec.

4. Are there fees for using a travel counsellor?

6. Should I book my trip early or wait for last-minute deals?

It depends on your destination and the time of year. Some types of trips should be booked well in advance to guarantee availability. Booking early also improves your chances of securing your preferred dates and accommodations. This is the case for explore guided tours or group cruises, for example. 

While purchasing a last-minute trip can be cost-effective, it is not always the case. If there is high demand for a specific date or product, prices may surge. During peak periods, you are likely to encounter fully booked accommodations or flights.

7. Can I fly with a pet?

Yes, but you’ll need to plan ahead and include your pet in your booking. You can’t just show up with them on the day of your flight. 

Contact your airline before purchasing tickets to confirm their pet travel policy. Also, check the destination country’s entry requirements—some may impose quarantine periods.
