In Quebec, the law generally prohibits expiration dates on purchased gift cards.
Only physical cards can be reloaded.
Consumer protection does not provide any guarantee of reimbursement for gift cards in the event of business closure. In the case of bankruptcy, a claim must be filed with the licensed insolvency trustee, but consumers are generally paid after everyone else.
Only refunds under $5 are made in cash. The common practice is to credit the refunded amount to a gift card or store credit.

Only active members of CAA-Quebec, aged 18 and over, can purchase gift cards from the Gift Card Store. However, anyone can use the gift cards at participating merchants.
