Begin at the ancient Roman Hippodrome, then explore some of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks: the Blue Mosque, impressive from the outside with its six minarets and inside with its Iznik tilework; the Hagia Sophia, a former Christian church in Constantinople and a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture; the Basilica Cistern; and the Grand Bazaar. Continue exploring this historic city. Visit Topkapi Palace, the former residence of Ottoman sultans and now a museum. After lunch, take a cruise along the Bosphorus, where Europe meets Asia and East meets West. Then, visit the charming Rüstem Pasha Mosque, one of Istanbul’s finest. Last but not least, take in the aromas of the famous Spice Bazaar, also known as the Egyptian Market. (B)
