In the morning, take a guided tour of Brussels, the beating heart of the European Union and a city rich in history and architecture, followed by a chocolate factory visit and a tasting. Spend the rest of the afternoon as you please. (B)
Head to Bruges. Take a guided walking tour of this medieval city, including the main square and the Beguine convent, which dates back to the 13th century. Continue on to the university city of Ghent for a guided walking tour where you’ll see the Castle of the Counts of Flanders, a 12th-century fortress, and Saint Bavo’s Cathedral. (B)
Leave for Mechelen in the morning. Upon arrival, take a tour of the city including the historic centre and the cathedral, followed by a visit to the Het Anker brewery, the oldest in Belgium, and a beer tasting. After lunch, spend the afternoon as you please. Transfer to Antwerp and board the MS Monet. Welcome cocktail party. (B-D)
In the morning, explore Antwerp’s old town, with highlights that include Butcher’s Hall and the main square, the site of the cathedral. In the afternoon, travel by coach to Volendam for a cheese factory tour and a demonstration of how Gouda is made. Continue to Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum where you’ll learn about wooden clogs, whose history can be traced back to the year 1200, and see a clog-making demonstration. Return to the ship.
