From grottoes, ports, and fortified cities to gardens and architectural ensembles, you’ll be enchanted by the authentic appeal of this one-of-a-kind Mediterranean gem.
Valetta

Pickup at the Valetta airport and transfer to the hotel. Dinner. Soreda Hotel 4* or similar (D)
Discover Malta’s capital, founded in 1566 by Grand Master Jean de La Valette. Explore its military architecture, baroque art, Upper Barrakka Gardens, MUZA Museum, and the Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck. Enjoy lunch in town, followed by “The Malta Experience,” an immersive film that brings to life the island’s history up to the present day. (B-L-D)
Head to Mdina, the “Silent City,” one of the island’s most stunning architectural ensembles. Perched atop a rocky hill, the former capital city features narrow streets, patrician homes, baroque churches, and magnificent palaces. See the Greek Gate, Rabat catacombs, and Dingli Cliffs. After lunch, visit San Anton Gardens, Ta’ Qali Artisan Village, and Mosta’s impressive St. Mary’s Rotunda. (B-L-D)
Take a 20-minute ferry ride to Mgarr on the uniquely charming Gozo, famed for its handicrafts, lace, and lush landscapes, so different from Malta. Explore the ancient Ggantija Temples, older than Egypt’s pyramids, and the medieval citadel of Victoria. Pass by Xlendi Bay, Dwejra Bay, Fungus Rock, and the Inland Sea. Have lunch (included). (B-L-D)
Head south to experience the rich culture of Malta. Visit Wied iz-Zurrieq, where an optional boat trip to the famous Blue Grotto ($) offers a view of its crystal-clear waters. As you pass through typical southern villages, explore a region steeped in history and local traditions. Have lunch on your own. (B-D)
See the fortified towns across from Valletta, known as the Three Cities—Birgu, Bormla, and Isla—established in 1530 as the first settlements of the Knights, a Catholic military and religious order. Cross Bormla, stroll through the historic streets of Birgu, and enjoy a scenic cruise in a traditional dghajsa along the harbour inlets. From Gardjola Gardens, take in a 360° panoramic view of the Grand Harbour, including Fort St. Angelo—a key site of the 1565 Great Siege where the Ottoman Empire faced the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Have lunch on your own. (B-D)
