Set off by bike to discover the Haarlemmermeer polder, once the largest lake in the Netherlands. Continue through the “Groene Hart” (green heart) of the Netherlands to Kudelstaart, a small waterfront village in the Westeinderplassen lake district. (B-L-D)

Sail to the Nieuwe Meer lock, then hop on a bike and ride along the Amstel River. Board a ferry to cross the IJ lake. Discover Zaanse Schans with its traditional wooden houses and windmills. (B-L-D)

Explore the most beautiful dunes in the Netherlands. Spend some time on your own to rest and enjoy the view of the North Sea. Continue to Alkmaar, a historic town whose famous church, “Grote Kerk,” dates back to the 15th century. The Cheese Museum is also worth a visit! (admission not included) (B-L-D)

Go biking on the old seabed as you cross the polders of Beemster and Purmer, two drained lakes now used for farming. Pedal onward to De Rijp and Graft, two quaint 17th-century villages where fortunes were built on herring fishing and whaling. (B-L-D)

Explore the picturesque villages of Zunderdorp and Ransdorp by bike. You’ll have the option of biking on to the famous historic villages of Edam, Volendam, and Marken on the shores of Lake Ijssel. Return to Amsterdam and enjoy free time. (B-L-D)
