Day 1Bangkok

Arrive at the Bangkok airport and transfer to the hotel. Hotel Mandarin 4* or similar

Day 2Bangkok – Ayutthaya (80km – 1hr. 15min.)

Visit the Bang Pa-In Palace, former summer residence of King Rama V, and the incredible ruins at Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Have lunch, then explore multiple Buddhist temples and the Bang Lan market. Hotel Krungsri River 4* or similar (B-L)

Day 3 Ayutthaya – Uthai Thani – Sukhothai (380km – 5hr.)

Travel to Sukhothai with a stop at Uthai Thani for a tour of Wat Tha Sung, known as the “crystal temple.” Then board your boat for a lunch cruise on the Sakae Krang River to observe the traditional way of life and floating houses. Arrive in Sukhothai and check in at the hotel. Le Charme Sukhothai Resort 3* or similar (B-L)

Day 4Sukhothai

Start your day with a bike ride and visit to Sukhothai Historical Park. Enjoy lunch at a local’s home then a lesson in making Buddhist amulets. Take the rest of the day to explore at your leisure. (B-L)

Day 5Sukhothai – Lampang – Chiang Mai (305km – 4hr. 45min.)

Stroll through the old town of Lampang and admire the beautiful teak houses. Continue to Chiang Mai, northern Thailand’s foremost cultural hub. Visit Wat Doi Suthep. Perched above the city, this sacred temple attracts many pilgrims. Banthai Village Hotel 4* or similar (B-L)

Day 6Chiang Mai

Free day. Optional excursion: Meet the elephants at the Elephant Rescue Park centre ($). In the late afternoon, take a songthaew to explore the streets of Chiang Mai with stops to sample local culinary specialties. (B-D)

Day 7Chiang Mai – Bangkok

Free day. Optional excursion: Thai cooking class ($). In the afternoon, transfer to Chiang Mai train station. Spend the night aboard the train. (B)

Day 8Bangkok

Visit Wat Pho, a temple that’s home to over a thousand representations of Buddha, including the iconic Reclining Buddha. Then explore Wat Phra Kaeo, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Enjoy lunch and the rest of the day as you please. Optional excursion: Take a boat ride through the canals of Bangkok ($). In the evening, take an optional dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River ($).
