Day 1 Hanoï

Pick-up from airport and transfer to the hotel. Muong Thanh Grand Hanoi Hotel 4* or similar

Day 2Hanoi – Ha Long (170km – 3 hr. 30 min.)

Head to Ha Long with a stop at the Dai Viet craft village along the way. Go on a junk boat cruise in Ha Long Bay. See the bay’s lesser-known islands, go swimming, and explore the caves. Spend the night on board. Ha Long Sails boat (B-L-D)

Day 3Ha Long – Ninh Binh (200km – 4hrs)

The cruise continues. Landing and drive to Ninh Binh. Legend Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 4Ninh Binh

Visit to the Bai Dinh Pagoda, the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia. Riverboat trip on a small canal winding between rice paddies and mountains to explore the Van Long caves, in the nature reserve bearing the same name. In the afternoon, tour of Phat Diem Cathedral as well as the Dinh and Le Temples. (B-L-D)

Day 5Ninh Binh – Mai Hich (160km – 4hrs)

Drive to Mai Hich. Lunch at a local’s home, followed by a bicycle ride to discover the surrounding countryside amid rice paddies. Traditional music show. Night at a local’s home. (B-L-D)

Day 6Mai Hich – Son La – Dien Bien Phu (350km – 7hrs)

Departure for Son La. Tour of the Son La penitentiary before continuing on to Dien Bien Phu by way of the Pha Din Pass. Muong Thanh Dien Bien Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 7Dien Bien Phu – Muong Lay (200km – 5hrs30min)

City tour of Dien Bien Phu: the headquarters, the French memorial and its museum, as well as the Eliane Hills. Continuation to Muong Lay. Hoang Nham Luxury Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 8Muong Lay – Lao Cai – Sapa (80km – 2hrs)

Drive to Sapa. Stop at the breathtaking Silver Waterfall. After a meal, tour of the Ma Tra village to meet the Hmong people. Sapa Highland Resort 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 9Sapa

Visit to the village of Cat Cat for an insight into the authentic customs and cultural activities of the Black Hmong people. Stroll through the valley between the traditional villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van, complete with rice paddies. Then off to discover the colonial district of Sa Pa with its covered market. (B-L-D)

Day 10Sapa – Ha Giang (240km – 6hrs)

Departure for Ha Giang. In the afternoon, tour of the Thon Tha village, home to the Tay ethnic group. Yen Bien Luxury Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 11Ha Giang – Dong Van (150km – 4hrs)

Drive to Dong Van. Stop at Quan Ba, village of weavers. After lunch, visit to the fortified palace of Vuong, former king of the Hmong people. Arrival in Dong Van and tour of the old town. Hoa Cuong Hotel 3* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 12Dong Van – Meo Vac – Cao Bang (250km – 7hrs)

Trip to the Meo Vac market. Every Sunday morning, several ethnic groups gather here to buy and sell local products that aren’t found anywhere else. Transfer to Cao Bang and check-in at the hotel. Muong Thanh Cao Bang Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 13Cao Bang – Ba Be (330km – 7hrs)

Departure for a visit to the blacksmiths’ village before reaching the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfalls, the largest in Vietnam. Continuation to the Ba Be region. Dinner and night at a local’s house in the village of Pac Ngoi, home to the Tay people. (B-L-D)

Day 14Ba Be – Hanoi | (240km – 5hrs)

Cruise on Lake Ba Be. Then, back to Hanoi for a visit to the lacquerware factory. Muong Thanh Hanoi Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 15Hanoi
