Continue to the Coptic Quarter, the cradle of Egyptian Christianity, with visits to Saint Sergius Church and Saint Mary Church, known as the “Hanging Church”, renowned for its unique architecture and remarkable icons. Transfer to Cairo Airport and flight to Luxor. Upon arrival, transfer to the port and embarkation aboard the ship. Lunch, followed by a visit to Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex of ancient Egypt. Dedicated to the god Amun and developed over nearly 2000 years, it features monumental sanctuaries, pylons and columns built by great pharaohs such as Seti I, Ramses II and Thutmose III. Following breakfast, discovery of the west bank of the Nile and ancient Thebes. Visit to the Valley of the Kings, burial site of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including exploration of three rock-cut tombs. Continue to Medinet Habu Temple, the remarkable funerary temple of Ramses III, renowned for its impressive scale and well-preserved colourful decorations. Photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon. Morning sailing to Edfu. Lunch, followed by a visit to the magnificent Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved temples of ancient Egypt. A masterpiece of the Ptolemaic period, it is renowned for its impressive pylon, intricately carved reliefs and the two majestic black granite falcons guarding its entrance. Discovery of the courtyards and sanctuaries before returning to the ship and continuing the cruise to Kom Ombo. (B-L-D)
Morning visit to Kom Ombo Temple, a remarkable Greco-Roman sanctuary situated on the banks of the Nile. Unique in Egypt, it is dedicated to two deities: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder, the falcon god. Its symmetrical architecture, refined reliefs and chapel housing crocodile mummies make it a fascinating site. Continued sailing to Aswan. (B-L-D)
Arrival in Aswan in the morning. Visit to the magnificent Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Threatened by rising waters following the construction of the Aswan High Dam, this jewel of the Ptolemaic era was rescued through a major UNESCO-led operation and rebuilt on a nearby island. Discovery of this remarkable site, including its naos, a stone sanctuary that once housed the statue of the goddess. Free afternoon or optional coach excursion to Abu Simbel ($). (B-L-D)
