Day 1Cancun

Day 2Cancun – Tulum – Tankah – Chetumal (380km)

In the morning, tour the Tulum ruins, the only seaside Mayan archaeological site. Next, explore Tankah Ecological Park, nestled in the jungle. Have lunch with the inhabitants of a Mayan village in the heart of the park. Continue to Chetumal. Hotel Continental Caribe Bay 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 3Chetumal – Bacalar – Palenque (525km)

Head to Bacalar, a natural gem famous for its lagoon with seven shades of blue. Continue to Chiapas and dine en route at a local restaurant. Travel on to the lost city of Palenque. Here majestic monuments, including the celebrated Temple of the Inscriptions, emerge from lush vegetation in a spectacle both mysterious and captivating. Hotel La Aldea del Halach Huinic 4* (B-L-D)

Day 4Palenque – Agua Azul - Palenque (130km)

Go on a morning tour of the Palenque ruins, hidden amidst the lush jungle foliage. The well-proportioned architecture and mysterious power of the forest make this city one of the most impressive Mayan cities in Central America. From there it’s on to Agua Azul, a spectacular series of waterfalls whose bright blue waters cascade down limestone formations into a series of natural pools. Fish dinner under a palapa. (B-L-D)

Day 5Palenque – Campeche

Board the brand new Maya train en route to the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy a packed lunch on board. Arrive in Campeche, Mexico’s only walled city, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy a stroll along the Malecon and explore the historic town centre. Del Paseo Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 6Campeche – Uxmal – Merida (250km)

Depart for a tour of Uxmal, considered by some as one of the Seven Wonders of the World due to its exquisite natural surroundings. Enjoy a Yucatecan lunch at a local restaurant and try the famous “pollo pibil.” Tour the Chocolate Museum and enjoy a tasting. Meet a shaman and watch a demonstration of a Mayan purification rite. Continue to Merida and tour the city. Have dinner at the Museum of Yucatec Gastronomy. Merida Hotel 4* or similar (B-L-D)

Day 7Merida – Izamal – Chichén Itzá – Valladolid (190km)

Leave for Valladolid. Stop at a Mayan cemetery, then in Izamal to discover the magnificent convent (exterior). Venture onwards to the Chichen Itza ruins, the largest Yucatan archaeological site. Drive to Valladolid and have lunch at Hacienda Selva Maya. Option to go for a swim in the property’s cenote. Tour the charming town of Valladolid. Day 8Valladolid – Cancun (160km)
