Day 1Montreal – Havre-aux-Maisons – Grande-Entrée

Flight to the Magdalen Islands. Transfer to Auberge La Salicorne and check in for the next five nights. Enjoy drinks and a four-course Madelinot dinner at the inn. Auberge La Salicorne 3* (D)

Day 2Grande-Entrée

Trip to Grande-Entrée harbour, the most important lobster fishing port in Eastern Canada. Stop at the wharf for an oyster-tasting session with a mariculturist, followed by a three-course meal at the inn. Afternoon walk along the path across from the inn, before relaxing with a clay mask at the Bassin aux Huîtres. Meeting with a storytelling fisherman, followed by a Madelinot-style lobster tasting workshop and awarding of a connoisseur’s certificate. Lobster dinner at the inn to cap off the day in style. Day 3Grande-Entrée

Early birds beware: the lobsterboats’ departure at sea is something to behold! Return to the inn to get a bit more sleep. Visit to Old Harry, one of the Islands’ three English-speaking communities, once a walrus-hunting hotspot, the Little Red School House Historical Museum, the Maison du Potier (Potter’s House) and St. Peter’s-by-the-sea Church to see the exhibit honouring those lost to the sea. Three-course lunch. Free time to enjoy the inn’s facilities before the unmissable fishing for cockles, tiny mollusks picked from the sand at low tide. Four-course dinner at the inn. (B-L-D)

Day 4Grande-Entrée – Havre-Aubert – Cap-aux-Meules – L’Étang-du-Nord – Grande-Entrée

Travel to Havre-Aubert Island for a guided tour of the La Grave historic site. Climb up the Buttes des Demoiselles for a breathtaking view of Entry Island. Have lunch at Café de la Grave, then head to Cap-aux-Meules and L’Étang-du-Nord: lookout, Site de la Côte, Borgot lighthouse, and shops. Stop at a local island producer. Return to Grande-Entrée, then tuck into a four-course Madelinot dinner at the inn. (B-L-D)

Day 5Grande-Entrée – Grosse-Île

Morning tour of Grosse-Île, including the fishing port, Cap-Dauphin and Holy Trinity Church, renowned for its stunning stained-glass windows. Three-course lunch. Hike on Grande Échouerie beach. Guided tour of the Seal Interpretive Centre to learn all about this animal, followed by a four-course loup-marin (sea wolf) dinner with folk singer at the inn. (B-L-D)

Jour 6Grande-Entrée – Havre-aux-Maisons – Montreal

Hike to Boudreau Island, a preserved natural site, to discover the fascinating salicornia herb, also known as glasswort. Three-course lunch. In the afternoon, head to Havre-aux-Maisons and tour the Fumoir d’Antan and the Pied-de-Vent cheese factory. Stop at Dune du Sud to admire its red cliffs and Cape Alright lighthouse (also known as Julie’s lighthouse). Transfer to airport for return flight. A boxed light dinner will be provided. (B-L-D)
