Day 1Rio de Janeiro

Arrive at the Rio de Janeiro airport and transfer to the hotel. Novotel Rio de Janeiro Leme 4* or similar

Day 2Rio de Janeiro

Explore the city centre, where old and new coexist. After lunch, stroll the historic streets and visit the Cathedral of St. Sebastian and the Carioca aqueduct. Take a break at the Colombo coffeehouse and sample some tea or coffee. Stops for photos at the Sambodrome, where the famous Rio Carnival takes place every year. Pass by Rio’s legendary beaches. Day 3Rio de Janeiro

Depart for Corcovado and take the rack railway through Tijuca Forest to Christ the Redeemer, standing 710m above sea level and offering a spectacular view of Rio. Lunch at a traditional churrasqueira. In the afternoon, tour the botanical gardens, a vast 137-hectare park housing a rich collection of plants from Brazil and around the world. (B-L-D)

Day 4Rio de Janeiro

Visit the artistic district of Santa Teresa, where you’ll taste local specialties. See the famous Selarón Steps, and after lunch, take a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain for a panoramic view of Rio. Have dinner at the Rio Scenarium, a nightlife hotspot, and enjoy Brazilian music. (B-L-D)

Day 5Rio de Janeiro

Go behind the scenes of the Rio Carnival. Discover the secrets of how floats and costumes are made at the Grande Rio samba school’s workshop. View an exhibition on the history of samba, try on costumes, take a dance lesson, and finish this festive and oh-so-Rio experience with a caipirinha tasting. Spend the afternoon as you please. (B)

Day 6Rio de Janeiro – Paraty (250km – 4hr. 30min.)

Day 7Paraty
