Day 1San José

Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Dinner at leisure. Sleep Inn Hotel 4* or similar

Day 2San José – Irazú – Cartago – Orosi Valley – San José (120km)

Departure for Cartago to discover Irazú Volcano (3,432m), which offers spectacular views of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on a clear day. Visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, followed by lunch. In the afternoon, discover the Orosi Valley and its 18th-century colonial church. Return to San José and enjoy free time. (B-L)

Day 3San José – Sarchí – Grecia – La Fortuna – Arenal (140km)

Travel through the Central Valley toward La Fortuna. Along the way, stop in Sarchí, a village renowned for its traditional handicrafts, hand-painted ox cart workshops and the world’s largest ox cart. Continue to Grecia, famous for its striking red Gothic-inspired metal church, imported from Belgium in the late 19th century. Lunch en route before reaching La Fortuna. In the afternoon, enjoy a walk along hanging bridges in the heart of the tropical rainforest, offering magnificent views of the canopy and local wildlife. Check in at the hotel. Day 4La Fortuna – Caño Negro – Arenal (180km)

Travel to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, one of Costa Rica’s most important wetland ecosystems, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity. Enjoy a boat excursion through waterways lined with lush vegetation. Observe numerous bird species, including the jabiru, as well as monkeys, reptiles, caimans and rare aquatic plants. Lunch, followed by a return to La Fortuna. In the late afternoon, optional excursion ($) to the region’s hot springs (Baldi or Ecotermales) to enjoy thermal pools in a natural setting. Day 5La Fortuna – Arenal – Rincón de la Vieja (220km)

Departure for Arenal Volcano National Park, renowned for its spectacular landscapes and ancient lava flows. Hike along the park’s trails, offering superb views of the volcano and surrounding rainforest. Continue to the Guanacaste region, known for its vast plains, cattle ranches and drier climate. Along the way, discover the atmosphere of Costa Rica’s western region, where it is common to see cowboys tending their herds. Continue to your lodge in Rincón de la Vieja. Day 6Rincón de la Vieja

Discover Rincón de la Vieja National Park, renowned for its geothermal activity and exceptional biodiversity. Hike along the Las Pailas Trail, where you can observe fumaroles, bubbling mud pools, hot springs and unique volcanic landscapes. Along the way, discover the tropical rainforest, its abundant flora and diverse wildlife, including howler monkeys.
