No summer holidays for CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance!

Published on July 6, 2021

Last year, we saw increases in the number of roadside assistance services of more than 10% in some regions of Quebec. As vacationers prepare to take to the province’s roads again this year, our roadside assistance team is ready to respond, every day and at any hour, across the province.

Whether it’s for their traditional family getaway or for the season’s first outing in their vintage convertible, we wish all of our members and all vacationers a pleasant and smooth journey. But if their vehicle (be it motor or electric, four-wheeled or even two-wheeled) should fail to start or should break down a few kilometres from their destination, our roadside assistance team will be on hand.

The summer season is beginning and we expect a lot of activity on Quebec’s roads. We think less about it than in winter, but our teams are also in high demand in the summer. Count on us for safe service that does not compromise your health or that of our teams.

– Pierre-Serge Labbé, CAA‑Quebec Vice President, Automotive Services

And based on last year’s trend and Quebecers’ vacation intentions, we will likely see a further increase in our member services in some parts of the province.

Significant increases in some regions, while Montreal down

The number of services rendered in the greater Montreal area has dropped by nearly 4% since last summer, while almost all other regions of Quebec have seen an increase. Four regions have seen an increase of more than 10% in the number of roadside assistance services.

This is the case for Côte-Nord, with an increase of almost 44% in the number of services between summer 2019 and summer 2020. The Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region follows with a 17% increase. Then follow the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and the Bas-Saint-Laurent regions, with 13% more services in each. The Outaouais ranks 5th with a positive variation of 8% between the last two summer seasons.

“The most valuable advice we can give vacationers is to take the time to plan your trip well: not only the destination, but also the route to get there,” Labbé emphasizes.

Health measures for a safe ride!

The current reopening and the transition of all regions of Quebec into Green Zone status allows us to look forward to the return of a certain normality in the near future. We will continue to comply with the government’s health recommendations as well as those of our health and safety advisor.

As a reminder, a person can now board with our driver in the passenger compartment. Hand sanitization and wearing a surgical mask are mandatory for both the member and the driver. The interior will be fully disinfected following service.

“We thank all of our teams for their incredible efforts to comply with health measures, and we are pleased with the positive record of our service,” Labbé says.  “We have made no compromises in ensuring the health and safety of our members and our patrollers.”

Details on exclusive zones in Montreal

Whether for Montrealers or those planning to visit the city this summer, the creation of exclusive zones in Montreal will not prevent CAA-Quebec from offering roadside assistance throughout the city.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) recently announced the establishment of exclusive towing zones, which apply only to vehicles involved in an accident or with engine failure that are blocking traffic or posing a hazard to other drivers.

When in doubt, the CAA-Quebec team will continue to inform and assist its members, regardless of the situation or the location of the vehicle.
