Discover the coverage and benefits of Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance

Basic coverage

Non-reimbursable travel expenses are covered, such as flights, accommodations, excursions, etc.

This insurance covers the cost of a passport that has not been issued within the timeframe confirmed by Passport Canada.

You’re covered in the event of quarantine. The insurance compensates you for the non-refundable expenses you have already incurred for your trip: plane tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, sightseeing tours, and so on.

This coverage is designed to mitigate financial loss if the Canadian government issues an official travel advisory stating that travel to your intended destination is either inadvisable or restricted. Reasons may include civil unrest, natural disasters, epidemics, pandemics, terrorist threats, etc. The advisory must be issued before your departure, but after you have taken out your travel insurance.

Your insurance can reimburse you for the otherwise non-refundable expenses you have already incurred for your trip: plane tickets, hotel stays, car rentals, sightseeing tours, etc.

This coverage is triggered if a disaster occurs at your home which requires you to interrupt your trip to return there. Disasters can include fire, water damage, burglary, or other calamities that damage your home.

Various expenses may be covered: early return air tickets, changes to or cancellation of other components of your trip, accommodations if your original itinerary is altered, etc.

You are covered if you are involved in a hijacking, violent assault, or act of terrorism during your trip. This could mean assistance in arranging a safe return to your home or another safe destination, seeking medical attention or contacting local authorities. Additional expenses resulting from this event may also be covered.

This protection can cover additional costs resulting from a missed connection: ticket change, hotel stay, meals, transportation to reach your destination, etc.

This coverage allows you to make a return trip to Quebec before the end of your trip in the event of a disaster at your primary residence, or the death or hospitalization of an immediate family member who is not travelling with you. BounceBack will cover your round-trip economy-class transportation costs up to a maximum of $2000.

If you take out your insurance within 72 hours of purchasing your trip, you may cancel your trip up to 3 hours before departure. The reason may be different from those listed in your contract.

If you have been at your destination for at least 48 hours, you can use this service to interrupt your trip. The reason may be different from those listed in your contract.

Answers to your questions

Everyone has access to the insurance products we offer on our website. You are warmly welcomed to request a quote for any of them that are of interest to you.

Naturally, we provide special benefits for CAA-Quebec members, such as discounts on various insurance premiums as well as preferential rates. Becoming a member to take advantage of these benefits could prove worthwhile for you. Feel free to discuss it with one of our advisors.

The first step is to contact your advisor. If you are not satisfied with the information they provide, you can write to us. For more details, including contact information, please refer to our Complaint Handling and Dispute Resolution Policy.

You can purchase CAA-Quebec Travel Insurance at any time prior to your trip. However, the sooner you insure, the more risks and unforeseen events you cover that could arise between now and your departure.

In fact, you may even pay a lower premium if you take out your insurance in advance, since the premium increases with age. Therefore, it is a smart choice to purchase your insurance before your birthday.

Furthermore, some coverages cannot be purchased at any given time, such as “all-risk” cancellation insurance. It must be taken out within 48 hours of purchase or first payment. This insurance covers cancellation of your trip for any reason whatsoever. Reasons for cancellation are not limited to the risks listed in the policy.
