Basic coverage
This coverage is designed to help mitigate the financial losses associated with the cancellation of your trip prior to your scheduled departure. This could include illness, injury, death, weather-related events, strikes, etc.
This protection covers additional expenses incurred as a result of a situation beyond your control that arises during your trip and prevents you from continuing as planned. The amount of coverage is unlimited. You are also entitled to a subsistence allowance of up to $4000 for lodging, meals, vehicle rental or phone charges.
This protection covers you in the event of loss, theft, vandalism, or damage to your baggage during your trip. You will be reimbursed for the value of the goods concerned, up to a maximum of $1500 (or $3000 if you take out annual insurance).
You have up to $100,000 of coverage in the event of your death or dismemberment (such as the loss of a limb) during your trip.
If an important document is lost or stolen, your insurance will cover the replacement costs. Passports, driving licences, visas, and birth certificates are among the documents covered.
Additional coverage and options
You get up to $5,000,000 in coverage for emergency medical care. This means you may be eligible for reimbursement of expenses for medical consultations, medical treatment, hospitalization, prescription drugs, emergency medical evacuation, and so forth.
The Annual Plan covers all your trips for 12 months. It provides coverage in the event of an accident or health problem while travelling.
There are several choices of maximum duration for your stays abroad: 4, 8, 15, and 30 days. There are also several choices of cancellation increments: $2000, $3000, $4000 and $5000. This way, you can tailor your annual coverage to suit your travel habits and expectations.
Coverage is valid for one year, worldwide, even in Quebec.* No matter how many trips you undertake!
* An overnight stay in a licensed establishment is required for the stay to be considered a trip within Quebec. See policy for further details.

Everyone has access to the insurance products we offer on our website. You are warmly welcomed to request a quote for any of them that are of interest to you.
Naturally, we provide special benefits for CAA-Quebec members, such as discounts on various insurance premiums as well as preferential rates. Becoming a member to take advantage of these benefits could prove worthwhile for you. Feel free to discuss it with one of our advisors.
Usually, the insurer will cover the required costs directly. However, some hospitals may require immediate payment.
We recommend that you contact your Travel Medical Assistance as soon as possible. They can recommend a doctor, clinic or hospital, confirm your coverage and save you a cash deposit.
Yes! The Annual Plan package option from CAA-Quebec Travel Insurance is perfect for people who plan to make several trips a year. This Annual Travel Insurance is offered as an option with the Emergency Medical Insurance and the Vacation Package Plan.
You choose the maximum duration of your coverage based on the total length of your stays. Several trip-length options are available to you.
Choosing this option saves you time, since you’ll be covered for all your trips during the year under a single policy. Plus, you won’t need to notify your insurer before each trip unless an extension is required or your state of health changes.
It also saves you money: the insurance generally pays for itself after just two trips.
There are various reasons why you might need to extend your trip: you might be having too much fun to come home just yet, or an unforeseen event beyond your control might prevent you from coming back when you planned. In the first case, all you need to do is notify us before the return date specified in your contract. If no claims have been filed, we will extend your contract and charge the extra amount to your credit card, so you can enjoy your vacation for longer!
In the case of an unforeseen event, such as a delay of up to 24 hours due to the carrier, or hospitalization that goes beyond the planned return date, your coverage can automatically be extended free of charge. Refer to your policy for more details.
A pre-existing medical condition is a health condition that already exists at the time insurance is purchased or at the time of departure. It’s also known as a “pre-existing condition.”
It may include, for example, a case of influenza for which you have consulted a doctor, a change in the dosage of one of your medications, high blood pressure, surgery, a problem for which you are awaiting medical results, and so on.
You must inform your insurer of your health status, e.g., on the medical questionnaire if one is required. A false statement or erroneous information may result in your policy being cancelled and rendered null and void.
Travel Insurance distributed by CAA-Quebec allows you to add an option to your policy to cover a pre-existing medical condition. No additional questions about your health will be asked. Your health status simply has to be stable for 7 days prior to departure for coverage to apply.
Yes, the Travel Insurance distributed by CAA-Quebec covers COVID-19.
However, exclusions and limitations apply when a Canadian government travel advisory for COVID-19 is in effect.
If you purchase Emergency Medical Insurance or Trip Interruption coverage only, the exclusions and limitations apply if the travel advisory is in effect prior to your departure. For example, the maximum benefits available for medical care related to COVID-19 may be reduced if your vaccination against this disease is not up to date.
If you purchase insurance that includes Trip Cancellation coverage, the exclusions and limitations apply if the travel advisory is in effect before you purchase your insurance. For example, if you book a trip despite a government advisory. You will not be refunded if you need to cancel your trip because of COVID-19.
Before travelling, be sure to review the current advisories on the Canadian government website.
Just because you’re taking medication doesn’t necessarily mean your insurance coverage will be limited. As a general rule, if the medical conditions for which you’re taking medication have been stable during the 3 or 6 months prior to your departure, you shouldn’t have any problems. You should be able to buy Travel Insurance and even get coverage for these conditions. The stability period required in order for a condition to be covered varies according to the product underwritten.
What’s essential is that you know which medications you’re taking and why. You must be able to provide this information accurately to your insurer when taking out Travel Insurance. A false statement or erroneous information can render your insurance contract null and void.
If you’re unsure about the functions of your medication, talk to your pharmacist. Ask for a comprehensive list of your medications and the medical conditions to which they relate.
No. Significant limitations and even exclusions of coverage apply if the insurer finds there has been abuse of alcohol, drugs, or medication. For example, if you have an accident while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you may not get any compensation.
