Worst Roads 2026: Once again, Outaouais decries the state of its road network
Already abuzz as the campaign season approaches, Outaouais residents once again rallied to call out what they consider to be the worst roads in the province. No fewer than six roads from this region break into the top 10, a clear sign of widespread frustration in this part of the country. And Chemin Pink in Gatineau, already named last year, earns the unenviable title of worst road in the province.
After some tougher years, the Worst Roads campaign bounced back in 2026, tallying more than 6700 votes—more than double the 2025 turnout and the highest total since 2022.
The 2026 rankings speak volumes and show that it is not only the provincial road network that is suffering from a maintenance deficit. Many municipal arteries are also in poor condition across multiple regions of Quebec. In the end, only one road under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility appears in the main rankings. But both the municipal and provincial road networks are in need of some love.

“The surge of frustration was felt both on the official voting platform and on social media. Is 2026 the worst year for roads in Quebec? I’m inclined to say it just might be!”
Nicolas RyanDirector of Public Affairs and Media Relations, CAA-Quebec
Despite promises of a few million dollars for some, 4 Outaouais roads are back in the rankings in 2026 after appearing in 2025. CAA-Quebec once again commits to monitoring the required work and promised investments on the 10 roads that top the 2026 rankings.
Flat tires over and over again in Montréal
The absence of Greater Montréal roads from the rankings can be surprising, given the rise in flat tires reported across the region. While several Montréal roads and highways have sadly stood out on social media, only Notre-Dame Street East came close to making the list, ultimately falling just short at 11th place in our annual rankings.
It’s a different story when it comes to flat tire services, as CAA-Quebec has noted a 26% increase in this type of assistance on the Island of Montréal compared to 2025.
Service region | From January 1 to April 30, 2026 | Change vs. 2025 |
|---|---|---|
Island of Montréal | 8000 flat tire repairs | +26.0% |
Greater Montréal (island and shores) | 12,000 flat tire repairs | +16.4% |
All of Quebec | 21,000 flat tire repairs | +11.4% |
This is a particularly exceptional situation for the Montréal region. The numbers are significantly up compared to last year and are clearly well above the provincial average.
While Montréal is the epicentre of flat tire calls, the province as a whole is also seeing an 11.4% increase compared to last year, pointing to a problem that extends to every corner of the province.
Together for Better Roads in Quebec
Now that the Worst Roads have been revealed, the real question is what the game plan will be for addressing Quebec’s infrastructure maintenance deficit. CAA-Quebec has chosen to join forces with other associations, industry representatives, and field experts within the Together for Better Roads in Quebec coalition. Actions are planned for the coming weeks, including meetings with various stakeholders as well as public statements.
“It will be important for the political parties vying for power this coming October to outline their strategy for better maintaining both the provincial and municipal road networks, as well as potential solutions to help municipalities financially, says Nicolas Ryan. Coalition members will be keeping a close watch and will offer their collaboration toward improving the road network across Quebec.”
Methodology
CAA-Quebec’s 11th Worst Roads campaign ran from March 18 to April 13, 2026. All road users (motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, truck drivers, etc.) could report their worst road in the province on the caaworstroads.com portal. One vote per road per day per email address was permitted. In total, more than 6700 votes were tallied to establish the final rankings for the 2026 Worst Roads campaign.
