CAA-Quebec, your e-bike ally!

Published on April 27, 2021

Buying an electric bike that meets your needs is one thing, but you also need to know how to use it properly and insure it too. CAA-Quebec’s got you covered in a comprehensive feature written in partnership with Protégez-Vous.

According to a CAA-Quebec1 survey, close to 90% of members were unaware that most home insurance policies have a bicycle coverage limit of $3,000, regardless of whether you have a standard or electric bike. And 76% did not know that by law, electrically assisted bicycle (e-bike) motors are restricted to a maximum speed of 32 km/h.

These findings illustrate the importance of educating people about the e-bike rules and best practices— especially given how popular this mode of transportation has become: 3 in 10 CAA-Quebec members who own an e-bike got theirs in the past year. The main reason for purchasing a power-assisted bicycle is to extend leisure rides, but it can also be a good active way to get to work and reduce your carbon footprint without getting too sweaty.
