CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance: A priority service, ready when our members need us

Published on January 11, 2021

Despite the new prevention measures announced by the Quebec government, including the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance continues to operate as a priority service. Since December 23, we’ve assisted more than 30,000 members across Quebec and we’ll continue to be there when they need us!

At CAA-Quebec, we’re there when it counts and we’ll continue to adjust our services during COVID-19 to comply with the prevention measures announced by the Quebec government. We make no compromises when it comes to the health and safety of our members, employees, and partners.

“As a recognized priority service, Roadside Assistance is always available to our members, especially those whose job requires them to be out on the road, such as healthcare workers.”

Pierre-Serge Labbé, CAA-Quebec Vice President, Automotive Services

We will continue to stand by, ready to assist our members whenever they need us, 24/7.

A priority—and safe—service

Strict health procedures have been introduced for roadside assistance services, and our members understand and appreciate how we operate. Patrollers comply with physical distancing and personal protective equipment directives issued by public health authorities and CNESST.

“We’re fortunate to have members who understand the situation and cooperate with our patrollers,” adds Mr. Labbé. “We’re committed to providing the same high level of service and continuing our operations—safely.”

Lots of battery service and towing

The most common service calls completed since December 23 have been battery services (41%), which include jump starts. Close second came towing (37%), followed by lockout (9%), flat tire assistance (7%), and winching (4%).

This year we’re noticing a slight downward trend in calls for services like towing, lockout assistance, and winching because temperatures are mild and people spent the holidays at home. These types of services are more in demand when there is bad weather and precipitation (snow, ice storms, or mixed conditions).

On the other hand, we’ve seen an increase in battery-related callouts, mostly for jump starts. You may recall that 2020 was so hard on batteries, mostly because some vehicles were kept parked for a long period of time. Our tally could’ve spiked if we had faced the cold of winter, when batteries need more power to start the engine.

Test your battery and avoid a breakdown

Still deciding on your 2021 resolutions? After the year that was 2020, there’s plenty to think about, but you should definitely include taking care of your battery. Check it now, before the deep freeze hits. One of the things CAA-Quebec’s Battery Service can do is test your battery. Our specialist patrollers in urban locations can even replace it on the spot, if necessary.
