White blanket across the province: our teams are ready for winter!
While it is an annual occurrence in Quebec, the snow will be back in a few hours, and we can’t help but highlight it. Even though many are caught off guard by the first storm, CAA-Quebec’s teams are ever ready! Our roadside assistance service will be activated on the field in the next hours and months. In the meantime, here are some tips to start winter with the right spirit.
With snow come the first cold days. In short, winter is a challenging season for your vehicle. “Prevention” is the watchword. Take the time to properly prepare it together with your winter kit in order to deal with any situation—storms can be unpredictable.
During colder weather, your battery will need more energy to start. Ask our patrollers to come and test the condition of your vehicle wherever you are. If it doesn’t pass the test, they will gladly change it when possible! Our staffing levels are increased for the busy days with over 1200 service vehicles on the road and 3 to 4 times more employees to take calls and dispatch our towing services.

“Last year’s frigid weather marked a new milestone in roadside assistance. We’re very proud of our teams who responded to more than 260,000 requests in total. Once again, this year, we will be there to assist you, snow or shine.”
- Pierre-Serge Labbé, Vice President, Automotive Services, CAA-Quebec
Some Tips for Winter Driving
It’s winter! Adjust your driving with these 4 steps:
- Lift your feet higher: handle the throttle gently, it will help your tires grip the road better.
- Watch out for black ice: slow down and keep a 6 second distance between you and the vehicle in front. This will allow you to react more quickly in case of an emergency, regardless of the traffic conditions.
- Test the roadway: if you are unsure of the road conditions, try making a few turns, braking or skidding at moderate speed in a large parking lot.
- Fill up on gas … or electricity: make sure you always keep your gas tank at least a quarter full. Driving an electric car? Charge fully before you travel in very cold weather, as the maximum range can be reduced by 30–50%.
