Travelling this summer? Don’t forget to pack... travel insurance!
The results are in, and the 16th annual survey on Quebecers’ summer vacation plans confirms that many intend to travel outside La Belle Province to explore other parts of Canada. With the construction holiday about to begin and while many travellers are packing their bags, CAA-Quebec reminds you that’s important to check your insurance coverage before you leave.
Cancellation insurance, emergency medical insurance, trip interruption insurance, accident insurance, baggage insurance, oh my! The novice traveller might set off on their trip mistakenly thinking they have enough coverage and then get caught short when it’s time to pay the bill.
The annual survey also reveals that only 22% of people in Quebec know that Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) does not cover all medical costs for care received outside Quebec. A great reminder at a time when many Quebec travellers will be hitting the roads of Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, in particular.

Debunking a persistent myth: No, the price of gasoline does not always go up before the construction holiday.
This comes up year after year, but it’s important to remember that Quebec is not a market that can single-handedly shift supply and demand for petroleum products. Local gas stations tend to adjust to fluctuations in international markets, and although it is risky to try to predict a price, the current trend seems advantageous for consumers. CAA-Quebec notes that prices have recently hovered below $1.50 in the Québec City area and around $1.59 in Montréal.
And for those who firmly believe in the myth and expect prices to go up as the construction holiday begins, just take a look at gas prices in 2024, before and during the holiday. With figures like these, we’ll wager that no one would want to see those prices again.
