Quebec’s Worst Roads are back, make your vote count!
A recent CAA study has confirmed Quebec has the worst roads in the country. CAA-Quebec is inviting you to speak up and name this year’s worst road. This is our way of allowing all road users to express themselves. Make your vote count!
Back again for a sixth year, Quebec’s Worst Roads garners every year thousands of votes. Voting starts now at CAAWorstRoads.com and will be open until May 17. CAA-Quebec will reveal results in early June.
“Quebec drivers spend a yearly total of nearly $1.4 billion of additional expenses for their vehicles because of the poor condition of our roads. But more than that, it’s all road users – drivers, cyclists, and even pedestrians – that benefit from roads in good condition. While nice roads are more comfortable and easier to drive on, they’re also safer for all users,” says Sophie Gagnon, Vice President of Public Affairs and Road Safety.
Experts chime in
This year, we took the campaign a little further by soliciting expert opinions on the main issues relating to road quality. We’d like to thank professors Alan Carter, head of the Pavements and Bituminous Materials Laboratory at ÉTS, and Guy Doré, a professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Université Laval, for their involvement. Ministère des Transports du Québec also came onboard, providing us with valuable expertise for the exercise.
Join us on April 26 to hear experts answer questions that have been plaguing Quebecers for far too long. Are the roads actually worse in Quebec? Why are there so many potholes here in the spring? What does the most damage to our roads? Are we using the right materials to build them?
We’ll be sharing the answers on our website and on social media. Until then, you can vote for the worst road of 2021 and help us improve our roads!
A proven campaign
“Worst Roads works,” adds Sophie Gagnon. “At the end of each campaign, we submit the results to the authorities involved. Most of the roads that made the list of previous years have been improved in the short or medium term.”
Sylvain Lévesque, the current MNA for Chauveau, concurs: “I think the Worst Roads campaign was a major factor [in getting the Laval traverse in Lac-Beauport repaved]. When I talked to François Bonnardel to get the money to fix it, I said that it had been named one of Quebec’s worst roads, that it was a public embarrassment. I guess it made an impression, because—to my great relief and that of my constituents—the minister allocated funds.”
