Wild weather: A big challenge for our patrollers. Have a look!

Published on January 31, 2019

After providing 66,000 services in only 12 days, it’s safe to say that CAA-Quebec’s roadside assistance patrollers worked pretty hard in January. And they really saw it all!

Remember mid-January? Extreme cold, snowstorm, rain, freezing rain, repeat. The first cold snap was quite something. But it was far from over! The freezing rain transformed roads into lakes and rivers, which froze as the mercury dropped back down. Just imagine: roads like skating rinks or completely blocked with snow, horrendous traffic in the city, and cars stuck in snow, ice, or both.

CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance in January

  • Seasonal record: On January 21, CAA-Quebec had its busiest day of winter to date, providing an exceptional volume of services—nearly 11,000 in total.
  • 12 busy days: Between January 18 and 29, roadside assistance answered an average of 5,500 calls per day.
  • Over 1,100 vehicles were on the road, sometimes all at once, serving members from Outaouais to the Côte-Nord.

  • Buried vehicles: Help us help you! Patrollers can do a whole lot of useful things: giving a boost, replacing a tire, towing, extricating, but not shoveling out your vehicle and driveway. That would just take way too long. Thanks for your understanding and, most of all, for making sure we can get to your vehicle!

  • Rural areas helping cities: A number of patrollers in the Montérégie, Laurentides, and even Victoriaville (see photo) regions came to the aid of Montrealers the day after the freezing rain storm. Patrollers in Quebec City also got a helping hand from a number of regions, including Montmagny.
  • All four tires stuck in ice: What a nightmare! You can’t just pull the car out because that might tear it apart. We do everything we can, but sometimes it takes a while!
  • Impassable roads: Many roads in Montreal were closed during the storm. A number of rural roads were impassable between Montérégie and Estrie, where the storm hit hardest.

  • Stuck in traffic: Traffic was so bad the day after the freezing rain storm that it took patrollers over an hour just to get where they needed to be.

Everywhere, any time, rain or shine

CAA-Quebec boasts a solid roadside assistance team made up of employees and partners who spare no effort to be there for you when it matters most. Their ultimate priority is earning your trust. January was a tough month, but every member can rest assured that CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance will be there to help when the time comes, whether on a sunny afternoon in June or the coldest winter night, anywhere in North America (as long as there’s a road to drive on!).
