New service helps buyers of new houses and condos protect their rights

Published on January 24, 2020

Have you purchased a new house or condo? Are you covered by the Guarantee Plan for New Residential Buildings? Have questions about the plan?

Good news! Since January 15, 2020, a non-profit organization, SOS Plan de garantie résidentielle, has offered free information and support services to help buyers, future buyers, and beneficiaries of the Guarantee Plan for New Residential Buildings better understand and defend their rights.

The organization’s mission is to protect your interests free of charge by providing fair and accurate information and supporting you in any recourse you may take against your contractor, from file setup to final decision.

Here are some situations where the service could be useful:

  • You’ve purchased a house and you’re wondering if it’s covered under the plan.
  • You and your contractor disagree on the work or repairs that need to be done.
  • You’re not satisfied with the repairs done by your contractor.
  • To find out your options when a contractor has promised to complete work by a certain date but has failed to do so.
