Increase in maximum cost for driving courses

Published on January 6, 2020

If you or your teenager shopped for driving lessons last fall with a school recognized by Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec but didn’t sign a contract, don’t be surprised if the price has since gone up.

In late 2019, the Quebec government increased the maximum cost of driving lessons from $825 to $937. While we know this is not good news for consumers, it is a necessary evil to keep many driving schools in business and to preserve high-quality instruction. What’s more, the previous maximum driving schools could charge ($825) had never gone up since it was set in January 2010.

For CAA-Quebec, quality of instruction is of the utmost importance. And the mission of the four CAA-Quebec Driving Schools is to provide the very best.

Note that starting January 1, 2022, the Quebec government will tie the maximum cost of a driving course to increases in the cost of living.
