Having trouble insuring your vehicle? You’ve got options!

Published on November 18, 2020

Your auto insurance policy wasn’t renewed because you overclaimed? Insurers and brokers are turning you down one after the other or quoting exorbitant premiums? If so, you can turn to Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA).

It can help you get the mandatory insurance you need to drive in Quebec. Plus, it recently added additional coverage.

Mandatory coverage

Under the Automobile Insurance Act, $50,000 in liability insurance is required to drive a passenger vehicle in Quebec. Drivers who have trouble insuring their vehicles due to overclaiming, bad credit, or criminal records were already able to use GAA.

As a result of a significant increase (300%) in applications in 2019 compared to 2017, the organization has revised its terms and conditions to benefit consumers.

Additional coverage

GAA now offers additional coverage, such as more civil liability coverage than the minimum and damage insurance (collision, fire, theft, vandalism, etc.).

The additional coverage is a big improvement for consumers who are struggling to find insurance.

In order to take advantage of GAA’s free services, drivers must prove they have been refused by at least five insurers and brokers.

So if your vehicle has been in the wrong place at the wrong time too often, you’re a poor driver, or you’ve made numerous claims and your insurer no longer wants to insure you, don’t hesitate to contact the GAA Information Centre to take advantage of easy-to-access and newly enhanced insurance.
