Battery sales sparked a busy winter for CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance!
With a record number of batteries sold this winter, CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance was there when our members needed us. Between December 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, our teams helped more than 256,000 members across Quebec at all hours of the day and night.
The relatively mild winter combined with pandemic health restrictions meant people were extra careful and drove a lot less than in previous years. But CAA-Quebec Roadside Assistance did not take a day off. As always, we were available 24/7 anywhere in the province. Since we’re a priority service, we showed up every day with all the health and safety measures in place to protect our members, employees, and partners.
Performance highlights from this winter
In addition to a relatively short wait time for Roadside Assistance (about 33 minutes for the entire season), we set a record for battery sales. We sold and installed nearly 10,000 batteries with our mobile service this winter. You may recall that 2020 was hard on batteries as a lot of vehicles sat idle for long periods of time. More than 41% of all our service calls this winter were for Battery Service or boosts.
Between December 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, we made a total of 256,399 service calls. The top three services were for batteries (41%), tows (35%), and lockouts (7%). Winching and flat tires rounded out the calls with 6% each this winter 2020–2021.
A priority—and safe—service
So we can continue to be there when our members need us most, we’ve made some changes to our roadside assistance service during the pandemic. In March 2020 we put in place strict health and safety procedures for all our services (flat tires, battery boosts, fuel delivery, winching, lockout service, etc.), which our members understand and appreciate. Patrollers comply with physical distancing and personal protective equipment directives issued by public health authorities and CNESST.
“We’re fortunate to have members who understand the situation and cooperate with our patrollers,” adds Mr. Labbé. “We’re committed to providing the same high level of service and continuing our operations—safely.”
