Résultats de la Virée électrique 2025: autonomie et recharge des véhicules électriques en hiver

Key takeaways from the 2025 EV Circuit

14 EVs were tested on the road.

The lineup was varied: compact and sporty vehicles, luxury models, SUVs and even pickup trucks. Among them were 7 of the 10 best-selling models in Canada.

Winter range remains lower than official figures.

All the vehicles tested showed a range 14% to 39% lower than the officially advertised figure.

2 models stood out for their winter efficiency.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV and Polestar 2 recorded the smallest gaps compared to their official range.

Charging speed varies significantly from one vehicle to another.

On average, the vehicles tested regained 108 kilometres of range after 15 minutes of charging.

Winter range test results

The 14 electric vehicles were driven until their batteries were completely depleted. In February 2025, they were driven on a route between Ottawa (Ontario) and Mont-Tremblant (Quebec), in winter temperatures ranging from -7°C to -15°C.

To ensure comparable results, all vehicles were tested under the same conditions. Settings related to cabin heating and regenerative braking, in particular, were standardized across all participants.

The ranking is based on the distance covered on a single charge. The results also make it possible to compare real-world range to the figures published by Natural Resources Canada.

Fast-charging test results

Beyond range, charging speed is a key factor for people who regularly travel long distances.

During the 2025 EV Circuit, each vehicle was plugged into a DC fast charger. The testing measured, among other things, the number of kilometres regained after 15 minutes of charging. The time needed to go from about 10% to 80% of battery capacity was also calculated.
