Overview

The Electrified GV70 is the third fully electric model from Genesis, whose lineup also includes the Electrified G80 sedan and the GV60 compact crossover. Unlike the latter, which features an architecture dedicated to electric models, the electron-powered GV70 is an adaptation of the gas-powered version. Hyundai’s luxury division offers one single, fully equipped variant for $7500 more than a 3.5T Prestige internal combustion model, with an announced range of 383km.

Thus, the extra cost Genesis is asking for is entirely due to the conversion of its powertrain. The $84,500 price tag admittedly isn’t for everyone, all the more so as it eliminates any eligibility for government incentives. However, it’s still well below the nearly six-figure bills of some of the GV70’s contenders. U.S. customers are entitled to a version with slightly less equipment, which unfortunately does not cross our border.

Electrified or not, it rolls out of Hyundai’s South Korean workshops for the Canadian market.

Verdict

Genesis hit a home run with the gas-version GV70, which is undoubtedly one of the most recommendable compact luxury SUVs on the market today. The electric version adds a layer of smoothness, silence, and responsiveness that only increases the vehicle's everyday appeal. While the loss of agility on winding roads is unlikely to bother the intended buyers, the barely competitive range of the Genesis GV70 Electrified may be a sticking point for many.
