The Abruzzo region in central Italy stretches from the green heart of the Apennines to the endless blue of the Adriatic Sea. The mountainous backcountry is dotted with abbeys, hermitages, and folksy old towns where time seems to stand still, while on the coast, brightly coloured fishing villages still honour the delicious traditions of the trabocchi. Clearly, there are fabulous treasures in store for those who adventure between mountain and sea.
