Is it securely attached to the vehicle seat?
Is the child securely buckled into the seat?

Check the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) website for all the latest information and, most important of all, to ensure your children are safe on the road.

Child car seats: a matter of safety!

More than 1,000 passengers aged 9 and under are killed or injured in road accidents every year in Quebec.
A correctly installed child car safety seat reduces the risks of death and serious injury in a road accident by up to 70%.
Half of accidents occur in zones with a speed limit of 50 km/h or less, and they often happen close to home.
86.4%: This is the percentage of parents of children under age 5 who use a car seat suitable for their child’s weight and height. Unfortunately, only 50% of these seats are installed correctly.

Child car seat expiry date

Did you know that a child car seat has an expiry date? Its lifespan is typically 6 to 12 years. After that, the plastic and straps may be weaker and no longer up to the job of protecting your child. That’s the main reason CAA-Quebec does not recommend buying a used seat.

If you can’t find the expiry date marked on the seat, check the instruction manual or contact the manufacturer.

Recycling used child car seats

The Centre de recherche et d’éducation à l’environnement has found a way to recover and recycle car seat components.

CAA-Quebec is pleased to partner with this initiative by opening a collection depot in Quebec City. There are also several other depots across the province.
